Delighted to announce that:
CYCLING WITHOUT AGE SCOTLAND
is coming to
The right to wind in your hair!
Stonehaven has its first Trishaw.
My amazing Mum has been my inspiration to get this up and running. (She taught me so many things - riding a bike was not one of them! ) She can’t ride a bike any more but when I told her of my plan her face light up the room.
She will hopefully get a spin at Christmas!
In the modern, fast moving world we live in often our senior citizens become confined to their homes or live in care homes often far away from family members, and they lack the freedom to get outside and explore the world around them.
This amazing project allows them to get out and engage in the local environment, take in fresh air and once again feel part of society.
The charity, Cycling Without Age, is funded by the Scottish Government and there are currently 60 trishaws in Scotland. The only one in this area at the moment is in Montrose. There are none in Aberdeen or Aberdeenshire
I have already secured a very generous donation of £2500 from Stonehaven Cycling Club, this was matched by a SCC member and Stonehaven Lions donated the remaining £2600, so we have enough for Stonehaven’s first Trishaw. Bike Remedy have offered to maintain the Trishaw for us.
It would be fantastic if we were able to fund two or more as there is a clear demand for this from the 4 Care homes and also Carronhill School, a school for children up to the age of 18 years, with special needs. This would be a Community Trishaw, available to anyone in Stonehaven with mobility issues, not just the elderly.
What I now need help with is Pilots for the Trishaw- it’s electric and some more money to buy the next Trishaw. Stonehaven’s Trishaw is being delivered on Saturday 30th November and I would like to invite all those interested in the project to come to Stonehaven Leisure Centre from 1300- 1600 to meet the Cycling Without Age- Stonehaven Team, find out more about the project and if interested get trained up to be a pilot.
We are limited to 20 pilots to be trained that day, but more training will take place very quickly after that date.
We all have Mum’s, Dad’s, Grannie's and Grandpa’s who would love or have loved this project and one day, dare I say it, we might be taking advantage of the service. We all love cycling and this is really makes our club moto " Cycling for All" come to life.
If you can help in any way please pm me. ...
